Visiting an Inmate: Rules and Application Process (Mississippi DOC)

Mississippi Department of Corrections visitation page for state facilities. Each inmate may fill out a visitation list with ten visitors, reviewed annually; immediate family remain on the list permanently unless removed by the inmate, while anyone who is not immediate family expires automatically unless renewed. Inmates must initiate the process by mailing an Application for Visiting Privileges to the people they wish to see, since forms are not available online and are not emailed or mailed by MDOC, and applicants are not notified automatically if approved. No more than five people, including babies and children, may visit at one time. All visitors 18 and over need valid picture identification, visitors 16 and older must have photo ID showing date of birth, and children 15 and under must bring a legible birth certificate. The page also covers searches, the dress code, allowed infant items, appropriate affectionate behaviour, grounds for terminating a visit, and separate rules for the Youthful Offender Unit.
