Submitting Letters for a Supervised Release Review Hearing (Minnesota)

This Minnesota Department of Corrections page quotes Minnesota Statute 244.05 Subdivision 9(b), which allows a member of the public to submit a written statement at a supervised release review hearing without limiting the separate rights of the victim, the victim's family, the incarcerated person or the criminal justice community. Community members may email letters of support or opposition about people coming up for review to the Executive Officer of Hearings and Release at paroleinputpublic.hru.doc@state.mn.us, while victims and survivors send victim impact letters to Victim Services at MNParoleInput.DOC@state.mn.us. The page warns that a submitted letter will be shared with the Supervised Release Board and will be public and available to the incarcerated individual unless the writer requests that it be presented to the Board in a closed session.
