Visitation

State Prison Visitation Rules and Facility Contacts (Tennessee DOC)

TDOC's visitation page covers the application, scheduling and screening process for visiting a Tennessee state prison. Every visitor, regardless of age, must have an approved visitor application on file submitted to the inmate's assigned institution, and applications should be approved or denied within 30 days; no visitor is admitted before approval. Visitation is by appointment only, and schedules are set by each warden and include Saturdays, Sundays and one evening per week for people who cannot come on weekends. All visitors pass through multiple security screenings including a body scanner and may bring only photo ID and car keys into the visitation area, with baby items allowed in a clear plastic bag. Vending machines use a debit card bought in the lobby. The page lists dress code prohibitions and gives visitation phone numbers, hours and a downloadable visitation handbook for each of the 14 prisons.
