Resident Mail Frequently Asked Questions (Kansas DOC)

Kansas DOC page on sending mail to a resident. Residents may receive letters, postcards, photographs and non-musical greeting cards, and all letters are subject to being read and inspected. Stamps cannot be mailed in and must be bought from the facility canteen. Books and magazines must be shipped directly from the publisher or vendor; a resident may keep 12 books and 10 magazines in a cell, along with up to 10 personal letters and 50 photographs 8x10 or smaller, and Polaroid photos are banned. The page lists common reasons mail is withheld, including a missing sender name and address, homemade cards with glued-on items, laminated cards, bookmarks and correspondence between offenders, and explains that senders are notified and may appeal. Also covers the Order to Cease Correspondence and cites K.A.R. 44-12-601.
