Grievance & Complaints

Prisoner Grievances Policy 808.03 (Alaska DOC)

Alaska Department of Corrections Policy and Procedure 808.03, effective 10/13/06, is the department's prisoner grievance and appeal system. A prisoner must first try informal resolution using a Request for Interview Form (808.11A), then file a Prisoner Grievance Form (808.03C) within 30 calendar days of the incident or of learning about it. The Facility Manager issues a Level 1 decision; a Level 2 appeal on Form 808.03D must be filed within two working days, with the Director responding within 15 working days; a Level 3 review by the Standards Administrator must be requested within 20 working days and is the department's final action. Classification, disciplinary, parole board and court matters are not grievable. Separate tracks cover emergency grievances, health care grievances and grievances against staff, and filing more than five grievances in a week or 20 in 180 days can trigger a restriction.
