Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Program (Georgia DOC)
The Georgia Department of Corrections PREA page explains the department's zero-tolerance framework and how allegations are handled. It states that employees have a duty to report all rumors and allegations of sexual assault and sexual misconduct through the chain of command, that local Sexual Assault Response Teams (S.A.R.T.) ensure alleged victims receive immediate medical attention and a mental health evaluation, and that all allegations of sexual assault are reported to Internal Investigations. The page says GDC implements a toll-free 800 number allowing offenders to report incidents without fear of reprisal, and that offenders receive written notice and training on reporting methods and preserving physical evidence. It notes PREA national standards require each facility to be audited once in a three-year cycle, with one third of each facility type audited each year, and links the GDC PREA Policy, employee and inmate awareness brochures, PREA annual reports from 2012 onward, and facility audit reports for cycles one through five.
