Since July 1, 2023 all calls from people incarcerated in Minnesota Department of Corrections facilities are free, and families no longer need an active ConnectNetwork AdvancePay account or any balance to receive them, though the called party must still press zero to accept. Beginning May 14, 2025 all completed calls are subject to a 15-minute wait period before another call can be made, except at MCF-Red Wing, which the department explains is intended to stop people monopolising the phones. You cannot call an incarcerated person: they can only place outgoing calls at specific times and calls made to a facility will not be transferred. In a death, serious illness or injury, families should call the facility and leave a message, which staff will verify and pass on.
