Parole & Reentry
Parole Board Hearings and Public Attendance (Indiana)
The Indiana Parole Board describes the three hearing types it regularly conducts: parole revocation hearings, parole review hearings and clemency hearings. A parole review hearing is held annually after a person's parole is revoked to decide whether a new period of parole should be granted; the Board reviews the facts of the paroling offense, the criminal history and the last year of institutional conduct, the case manager prepares a progress report, and the individual should be ready to discuss programs completed and re-entry plans. The Board considers all correspondence both in favor of and in opposition to parole as long as it arrives in time. Members of the public may attend in person at the Parole Board office or at the facility, and the Board asks for at least 24 hours' notice because accommodations cannot be made once hearings are in session. Written statements may be mailed to the Parole Board office in Indianapolis or emailed, and must include the person's name and DOC number.
