Opioid Crisis Response and Medication-Assisted Treatment (Missouri DOC)
The Missouri Department of Corrections Opioid Crisis Response page describes the department's medication-assisted treatment work. In collaboration with the Missouri Department of Mental Health and Gateway Foundation, the department provides MAT to people in treatment for alcohol and opioid use disorders to prevent relapse before release. Eligible volunteers who have completed substance use screening, education and medical testing receive a first injection of Vivitrol, an extended-release naltrexone, several days before release, with a second injection three to four weeks after release for those continuing outpatient treatment; with a doctor's order a patient may switch to buprenorphine or methadone. The page lists the correctional facilities at Boonville, Chillicothe, Cremer, Farmington, Fordland, Fulton, Maryville, St. Joseph and Vandalia where MAT is available on completion of treatment centre programming, and notes that naloxone (Narcan) is stocked at probation and parole offices statewide. Some figures on the page are historical, so current eligibility should be confirmed with the department.
