Oklahoma Indigent Defense System Appellate Program (Oklahoma)
The Oklahoma Indigent Defense System's agency overview sets out the Appellate Program, which represents clients who have a right under Oklahoma law to appeal their convictions and sentences and have been judicially determined unable to afford appellate counsel. The program is split into Appellate Division East and Appellate Division West, and the page lists the counties presumptively assigned to each. It is appointed by the district courts in 75 counties, and in Oklahoma County and Tulsa County when the county public defenders have a conflict of interest or the defendant had retained counsel at trial and is later found indigent on appeal. The program handles felony, misdemeanor and traffic appeals where imprisonment was imposed, capital direct appeals under 21 O.S. 701.13 and capital post-conviction appeals under 22 O.S. 1080 to 1089, certiorari appeals after pleas and plea-withdrawal denials, acceleration, termination and revocation appeals, state appeals and juvenile appeals. Agency address: 111 N. Peters Ave., Norman; (405) 801-2601.
