Medical Care
Office of Health Services (Georgia DOC)
The Georgia Department of Corrections Health Services page explains that the Office of Health Services oversees statewide delivery of medical, mental health and dental care, including technical assistance, policy development, grievance appeals, clinical-legal issues, contract monitoring and analytics. It is led by an Assistant Commissioner of Health Services, with a Statewide Medical Director, Statewide Mental Health Director and Statewide Dental Director acting as final professional authority in their disciplines. Care is delivered under a managed care model: GDC contracts with Wellpath for comprehensive medical services statewide and with Centurion for mental health and dental services. Available services include medical and dental sick call, emergency care, chronic care, medication management, diagnostic tests, infirmaries, inpatient hospitalisations and specialty services. Everyone is screened at a reception center after intake from county jail to determine medical, dental and mental health needs, including auditory, mobility and vision disabilities.
