Maryland DPSCS Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Reporting

The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services PREA page describes the department's zero tolerance directive, issued September 1, 2012, which designates a PREA Coordinator, establishes a network of PREA Compliance Managers and formalizes the PREA Committee. All complaints of sexual misconduct or sexual assault are treated as serious incidents, and the department's Internal Investigative Division handles all PREA-related investigations and will accept complaints from any concerned individual; cases revealing criminal conduct are referred to the local state's attorney. To report an allegation on behalf of someone in DPSCS custody, the page gives a dedicated third-party hotline at (410) 585-3177, notes that communications are handled with strict confidentiality and that reporting parties may remain anonymous. The PREA Coordinator can be reached at the Office of the Deputy Secretary - Operations, 6776 Reisterstown Road, Baltimore, MD 21215, and facility audit reports are published on the site.
