Inmate Financial Transactions: Sending Money (Montana DOC)

Montana Department of Corrections page on depositing funds so an inmate can buy from the canteen. Only family members, one non-family member and the inmate's attorney may send money, and senders must be approved for visitation first; because approval can take up to 90 days, one friend or family member may send a single one-time $100 money order or cashier's check in the meantime. Personal checks are not accepted. Approved senders can deposit online through the state system at app.mt.gov/inmatebanking, which requires a Montana OKTA account. Mailed money orders must be purchased from the U.S. Postal Service, reach the prison within 20 days of purchase, be made out to the inmate with their inmate number, be postmarked near the sender's listed residence, and contain no letters, notes or photographs. The page lists mailing addresses for Montana State Prison, Montana Women's Prison and other facilities.
