Informational Handbook for Caregivers of Children with Parents in Prison (Louisiana DPS&C)
A handbook published by the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections for people raising children whose parent is incarcerated, last updated March 2021. Its nine chapters cover why maintaining relationships matters, co-parenting with communication and budgeting tips, stress points in the criminal justice system, supporting children through common emotional and behavioural responses, answering children's questions, communicating with a parent in prison, and visiting a parent in prison including preparing for the visit and what to do afterwards. A closing resources chapter lists government services, community organisations and books. The Department adapted it with permission from the Osborne Association's Stronger Together series and CEA-Wisconsin's Reaching Beyond Bars, worked with Daughters Beyond Incarceration, and used illustrations by incarcerated artists.
