Health and Wellness for Adults in Custody (Oregon DOC)

The Oregon Department of Corrections Health and Wellness page explains the legally mandated medical, dental, behavioral and mental health, and pharmacy services provided to adults in custody, delivered through a managed care model similar to coordinated care systems. The model emphasises on-site primary care with early intervention and prevention, coordinated care and disease management, controlled access to specialists and procedures, a restricted pharmacy formulary, controlled utilization, and utilization and claims review. Nursing staff complete more than 1,000 patient care contacts daily statewide, while physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants provide over 250 on-site primary care appointments each day. All adults in custody are screened at intake and evaluated throughout incarceration as needed, with crisis services available for acute mental health needs and treatment targeted to people with severe or persistent mental illness. DOC operates dental clinics in 12 institutions, transporting people from facilities without a clinic, and all DOC dental facilities are accredited by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care. The page links the medical records request process for former adults in custody.
