Mail & Phone
Hawaii Community Correctional Center: Phone, Mail, Money and Visits
This Hawaii DCR information sheet for the Hilo facility covers every form of contact in one document. Phones allow local, inter-island, mainland and international calls on collect, prepaid or debit terms, all monitored and recorded except privileged legal calls; three-way calls are automatically disconnected and lead to a misconduct and a blocked number. Families are told not to call the facility to speak to an inmate and to ask for the Watch Commander in an emergency. There is no limit on correspondence, but books, magazines and food may not be mailed, and letters are returned if the envelope carries stickers, ink stamps, glitter, glue, drawings or lipstick marks. Only cashier's or bank checks payable to HCCC and the inmate's name are accepted; money orders, cash and personal checks are not. Visits are held on weekends and state holidays with a 12-person approved visitor list, non-sentenced visits 8:30 to 10:45 am and sentenced visits 12:30 to 2:45 pm.
