Centralized Search and Sorting Center for Packages and Legal Mail (New Jersey DOC)
NJDOC page explaining the Centralized Search and Sorting Center, which screens incoming packages, publications and privileged mail before they reach New Jersey prisons. Effective September 15, 2026, packages, books, calendars, photo books, magazines, book catalogs, bulk printed religious literature, and religious and educational correspondence course materials, along with all privileged mail, must be sent to the incarcerated person's name and SBI number, CSSC, 55 Hogback Rd, Crosswicks, NJ 08515. Items sent directly to a facility are rerouted to the CSSC, which delays delivery. The CSSC does not handle general correspondence, which still goes through Pigeonly, nor food, perishables or consumable goods, which remain facility based. The page confirms that legal and privileged mail is subject to verification procedures but will not be read by staff, lists what counts as privileged correspondence, and gives a dedicated email address and phone extension for questions.
